Lucky Sturgeon IPA, the first beer brewed to support Riverkeeper and raise awareness about issues facing the Hudson River, was a huge success at the third-annual Hudson Hop & Harvest Festival, organized by Peekskill Brewery.

The Imperial IPA was brewed by Peekskill Brewery and Captain Lawrence Brewing Co., and named by Riverkeeper’s friends and fans on social media.

Riverkeeper volunteers helped Zero to Go make the festival nearly zero waste, with just eight bags of trash generated by more than 4,500 festival goers. Most waste generated – 120 bags – was composted, and another six bags of waste were recycled.

The response to the collaboration beer was extraordinary, and Riverkeeper wants to thank Peekskill Brewery and Captain Lawrence Brewing Co., as well as Zero to Go, for making the beer and the event so fun, successful and meaningful.

Rupert, from Red Hook, submitted the winning name for our "Lucky Sturgeon" beer. He told WAMC: “Honestly, I think a sturgeon’s a fish that would be a beer drinker. You look at that fish… That thing is gnarly looking. I think a sturgeon would definitely be an IPA drinker, maybe even a stout.”
