Tell the governor: No corporate bailout in Rockland for United Water

The battle against United Water’s costly and unnecessary desalination project on the Hudson River is not over. Two decisions are imminent from the Public Service Commission on United Water’s proposal.

Join the Rockland Water Coalition in contacting Gov. Cuomo TODAY, “Water Wednesday,” Oct. 22. The coalition urges:

Tell the governor: ROCKLAND SHOULD NOT BE STUCK WITH A CORPORATE BAILOUT FOR UNITED WATER’S FAILED PROJECT!

Suez/United Water wants to charge ratepayers a $60.3 million down-payment for its unsafe, unaffordable, and unnecessary proposal. $60 million for a project that may never be built!

Rockland residents are outraged that the company has attempted to keep 75% of the expenditures in the $60.3 million surcharge secret. Incredibly, in addition to formal confidential status, most of the invoices are devoid of ordinary accounting details. The public is being asked to pay invoices totaling in the tens of millions with less detail than they’d expect from their plumber or the corner deli.

Rockland should not pay one penny for this failed project, a corporate bailout on a project that may never be built!
