Tell Senate Leadership to Allow the Vote on a Fracking Moratorium Now!

Being a Senator means casting votes. This is the heart of democracy. Right?

But two men, the leaders of the Senate, disagree. They are stalling a vote on two important fracking bills that are in front of the Senate right now. One bill (S.4236A) would institute a two year fracking moratorium and the other bill (S.674) would end the special industry exemption that stripped the “hazardous” designation from fracking waste. Both are essential to protect the health and environment of New Yorkers.

Tell Senate leadership – Sens. Jeff Klein and Dean Skelos – to immediately bring the fracking moratorium and hazardous waste bills to a vote, before the Senate goes home on June 21!

63 duly elected Senators, including your own Senator, should not be denied the opportunity to represent their constituents by casting their vote for or against these critical fracking bills.

The two year moratorium bill that requires a health study will allow New York to wait for the science on fracking’s health impacts before any decision is made on whether to allow the practice within our borders. The hazardous waste bill will protect New Yorkers from the improper disposal of fracking hazardous waste that is going on in New York right now, from low volume wells within New York and high volume fracking allowed in other states.

It’s time for the Senate to act. After all of our work, we’ve never been so close to righting a process which so far has been so very wrong. And it comes down to this: two men who will make the determination on whether democracy begins and ends with them.
Tell Senators Klein and Skelos that New Yorkers deserve a vote!
