DEC staffing levels have plummeted while its responsibilities continue to expand

It’s time to get real about what’s happened to the state’s ability to enforce our environmental laws.

Why has NY’s environmental agency lost 30% of its staff since 1990, triple the state average? Is the environment simply seen as too costly?

DEC needs a fair staffing level – parity with other agencies. Otherwise, political claims that we are balancing economic and environmental interests are just feel-good rhetoric.
