The youth of today become the decision-makers of tomorrow. Riverkeeper works to ensure that the decision-makers of tomorrow believe in clean water and strong communities. We believe that education is valuable tool to manifest this goal.
To achieve this goal, Riverkeeper’s watershed team has developed a watershed stream monitoring program, the Leaf Pack Network (LPN), that allows middle school and high school students and other volunteers to monitor the health of watershed streams. We partner with the Hudson Basin River Watch and the Stroud Water Research Center to conduct the LPN program. Teatown Lake Reservation is the East-of-Hudson regional coordinator and The Catskills Center is the West-of-Hudson regional coordinator. Together, LPN educators work with more than 40 school groups to monitor water quality throughout the NYC Watershed.
