Riverkeeper has an active campaign to protect wetlands and wetland buffers (or wetland adjacent areas) at the federal, state and local level. The federal Clean Water Act has been the primary source of wetland protection for more than 33 years. However, as federal protections under the Clean Water Act are increasingly under attack, it is vital that state and local programs be strengthened and fully funded so that New Yorkers can reduce reliance on the federal system.
