we_are_doing
Take Back the Tap New York Campaign

Riverkeeper, the leading protector of the New York City Watershed, has joined forces with Food & Water Watch on the Take Back the Tap New York campaign.

Take Back the Tap New York:
• Promotes NYC’s premier tap water over bottled water
• Increases awareness of the NYC Watershed - a critical resource for 9 million New Yorkers
• Advocates for increased funding for water infrastructure maintenance
• Raises awareness of the social, economic, and environmental problems associated with bottled water

Campaign Goals:
• Get one million New Yorkers to sign the Citizen Pledge and choose tap water over bottled
• Persuade 1000 NYC restaurants to sign the Restaurant Pledge and eliminate the sale of bottled water
• Increase water fountain availability
• Convince NYC's large institutions to dramatically reduce their bottled water consumption through increased availability of tap water
• Secure passage and funding of the Clean Water National Trust Fund
• Secure state and local funding for infrastructure upgrades to the NYC Watershed system
• Regulate disposal of pharmaceuticals to keep them out of our waterways
• Stop the trend towards water privatization
