You Can Help Us Sample the Saw Mill River

Rondout-Creek-water-sampling-crDanShapley-rvk-2013-10-26 08.31.04This July, Riverkeeper is partnering with the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) and community scientists to begin monitoring the Saw Mill River for fecal contamination from headwaters to mouth.

This program will expand on sampling done by CURB and the Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club, in cooperation with the New York City Water Trail Association, in the daylighted Saw Mill River and along the Yonkers waterfront, as well as past sampling done by Groundwork Hudson Valley and the Saw Mill River Coalition.

Riverkeeper currently works with community scientists to test for fecal contamination in eight tributaries and two waterfronts in the Hudson Valley. We also monitor the Hudson River from NYC to Troy during our monthly river patrols. See more information and results here: https://www.riverkeeper.org/water-quality/.

Join us by becoming a sampler on the Saw Mill River! Testing will begin in July and will take place twice monthly through October. Riverkeeper and CURB will provide training and equipment. If you are interested in becoming a sampler, please sign up to receive more information.
