Friends of Muchattoes Lake Fall Projects

Join the Friends of Muchattoes Lake Project and the Quassaick Creek Watershed Alliance for a variety of projects this fall around the lake. Over the next month, they will be meeting for the next four Saturdays to clear areas around the lake, and to plant and maintain native plants.Please bring any tools you have, including: sickles, pruning shears, square edged shovels, pitchforks, weed whackers, and trash bags.

Organizers encourage participants to dress in long-sleeve shirts, long pants, and heavy gloves. Participants are also encouraged to bring drinking water. The projects begin at 8am, at Muchattoes Lake-for more details and RSVP, contact Karen Mejia at 845-569-7342 or at [email protected].

Saturday, October 3, at 8am
Volunteers will be working to clear specified areas with methods including, vine removal, shoreline clearing, shoreline shaping, and weed whacking.

Saturday, October 17, at 8am
Participants are encouraged to bring native plants to plant around the lake. Suggested plant species include: Blue flag, May apple, Joe Pye Weed, Cimicifuga, Prairie Coreopsis, Physostegia, Common Day Lilly, Rudbekia, or Echinacea.

Saturday, October 31, 8am
The final Saturday in October participants will be tending and watering the plants that have been planted over the course of the previous work days.

Directions:
Muchattoes Lake is located on the western side of Lake Street (aka route 32) behind the Lake Street Mall.
Coming south on Lake Street from Broadway take second right onto Lake Drive.
Coming north on Lake Street: make a left turn onto Lake Drive after the stop light at the gas station.
Our work site is 500 feet or so further along Lake Drive on the left.
From there you can actually see the lake!
