On Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Clearwater, NRDC, Riverkeeper, and Scenic Hudson are presenting a Hudson River General Electric PCB cleanup update for Mid-Hudson communities, entitled “Hudson River PCB Forum,” at the Marist College Boathouse.

In 2009, GE started to re-mediate the more than 1.3 million pounds of PCBs it released into the Hudson River. As the PCB cleanup moves downriver, it is important for elected officials and interested citizens in the Mid-Hudson region to be fully informed about the cleanup to date, to understand how it impacts our communities and to be engaged in the process moving forward.

Topics to be covered at the forum include an update on General Electric’s PCB remediation project from the EPA, a discussion of the impacts of the cleanup on the Hudson River fish by the NYSDEC, and a discussion about Hudson River fish consumption advisories relating to PCB contamination by the NYSDOH. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will also be at the forum to present the Natural Resource Damages Assessment process in response to the injuries caused to the environment by the PCB contamination in the Hudson River.

Sponsoring Organizations: Marist College, Natural Resource Defense Fund, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Riverkeeper, Scenic Hudson. Endorsed by: Center for Research, Regional Education, and Outreach at SUNY New Paltz.
