Sampling the Rondout Creek

Riverkeeper will present information about conducting stream walks on the Rondout Creek — which involve community efforts to get to know tributary streams, and potential sources of contamination — as part of an intermunicipal gathering hosted by the Rosendale Commission for Conservation of the Environment.

The Rosendale CCE, as well as its counterparts in the upstream towns of Rochester and Wawarsing, and other citizens, are testing the water in the Rondout Creek as part of Riverkeeper’s water quality monitoring program.

The Rochester Environmental Conservation Commission has launched an intermunicipal effort called Save the Rondout to begin a multifaceted campaign to protect and restore the creek. A representative of Save the Rondout will also make a brief presentation about the vision for the project.

The meeting is open to the public, and those interested in getting involved protecting the Rondout Creek — or learning how they might use the same tools in their own watersheds — are encouraged to attend.

Please note that the Rosendale CCE’s regular meeting begins at 7 p.m., and the stream walk presentation at 7:30 p.m.
