Riverkeeper's Robert Goldstein Wins Dual Environmental Awards

On April 25, Riverkeeper’s General Counsel and Director of Enforcement, Dr. Robert Goldstein, was honored with an EPA Environmental Quality Award. In honor of Earth Day, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized individuals, organizations and businesses who have dedicated time and energy to protecting the environment and public health in EPA Region 2, which includes New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and seven federally recognized Indian Nations. Robert Goldstein was selected for his outstanding work leading Riverkeeper’s legal team in protecting the Hudson River Estuary and the New York City watershed.

On May 3, Pace University School of Law will present Dr. Robert J. Goldstein with this year’s Nicholas A. Robinson Environmental Award. The prestigious award established in 2005 in honor of Robinson who founded the Pace Law School’s Environmental Law Program and Environmental Litigation Clinic, is given in recognition of significant contributions to environmental law by a Pace Law School graduate.

Robert Goldstein is Riverkeeper’s General Counsel and Director of Enforcement Programs. He currently is also a Distinguished Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and has taught at Pace Law School. At Pace, he garnered national and international recognition for his innovative initiatives to use environmental law to protect human rights. Dr. Goldstein founded the Journal of the Pace Center for Environmental Legal Studies, the Pace-Brazil Program, a joint-degree program with Yale University and the Virtual Environmental Law Library. He is the author of the book Ecology and Environmental Ethics: Green Wood in the Bundle of Sticks which deals with legal solutions to the problems of sprawl and non-point source pollution, and editor of Environmental Ethics and Law and numerous book chapters and law review articles.

Robert Goldstein holds a doctorate (S.J.D.) and a Master's degree (LL.M.) in environmental law from Pace Law School, and a Master's degree (M.E.M.) from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. While involved in every aspect of Riverkeeper’s work, he heads Riverkeeper’s campaigns involving the Tappan Zee Bridge, the General Motors redevelopment site in Sleepy Hollow, and the General Electric Superfund site in Fort Edward, NY.
