Here are photos taken at about 3 p.m. Thursday. The site is on the west bank of the Gowanus about 75 yards south of the Carroll Street Bridge. It appears that access is through the construction site or by water only.

It looks like the contractor has been discharging sediment laden water for some time, given the amount of sediment coating the bulkhead.

I’ve reported this to the state Department of Environmental Conservation and spoken with an officer who will visit the site today for enforcement.

This is not a big issue but it still matters. Developers benefit greatly by building near water – but the water mustn’t suffer as a result. On the contrary, developers should seek to improve the waters which benefit them. Isn’t it supposed to work that way?
