Riverkeeper received several communications Wednesday evening reporting oil sheen and smell of oil in the Saw Mill River at Yonkers, and reported the information to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The incident had also been reported by the Yonkers Fire Department.

Initial report to Riverkeeper:

Groundwork Yonkers said that its “Green Team” was watering a patio garden along Walsh Road around 3:30 to 4 p.m. when “they noticed an oil slick because they were trying to use river water to water the plants…. Basically, the slick was across the river at that location (across from War Memorial Field).”
