Riverkeeper is an independent, member-supported environmental organization founded on the premise that citizens themselves must roll up their sleeves to defend our waterways. We are dedicated to empowering individuals with knowledge and organizational resources to help us protect one of America's great treasures, the Hudson River.

We serve a diverse population, from urban dwellers residing in New York City to local fishermen and working class families who live and work in the rural Hudson Valley. With every passing day, their concerns increase for rigorous protection of the drinking water supply, for power plant safety, and for preservation of their local environment. Because of our widespread reputation for taking on polluters, whether large or small, Riverkeeper is increasingly deluged with requests for services, and that is why we need you to join.

Since 1983, Riverkeeper has investigated and brought to justice more than 300 environmental lawbreakers. Riverkeeper believes in the rights of every citizen to enjoy and defend our nation's water resources. Our members are business people, lawyers, teachers, contractors, doctors, firefighters, police officers, moms and dads. In other words—you! Whether you live directly on the Hudson, or simply believe in our right to clean water and healthy communities, we need you to join in our mission.
