Defend the Hudson:
Bob Elliott has an extensive career in the government, non-profit, and business sectors. Bob served as the Mayor of Croton-on-Hudson from 1991 to 2005 and is a past President of both the Westchester Municipal Officials Association and the New York Conference of Mayors. Recently, Bob was the Deputy Secretary of State of New York State and prior to that was the Executive Director of the New York Planning Federation, which trains and provides technical assistance to municipalities across New York State.
Bob is the founder and past Chairman of Historic River Towns of Westchester, an organization focused on waterfront development, tourism and main street economics in a bottom-up approach to regional planning. He has been the Director of Economic Development, as well as head of the Industrial Development Agency for Westchester County and was also President of the Westchester Convention and Visitors Bureau. Bob was one of the organizers and President of the New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal, a corporation owned by and insuring over 600 counties, cities, villages and towns in New York State
Currently he is a board member and Treasurer of both the Hudson River Foundation and the Glynwood Center and serves on a number of other boards including Hudson Valley Greenway Council, and its National Heritage Area Steering Committee, Center for the Study of the Environment and New Netherland Museum and Ship Half Moon. Previously, he has served on a number of other boards including, NYS DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Management Plan Advisory Board, Clearwater and Friends of Hudson Valley.
Active with colleges and universities, Bob chaired the Advisory Board of Westchester Community College’s Professional Development Center and is currently a member of Cornell University’s Applied Research and Extension Program Council on Community and Economic Vitality. He was one of the organizers of the NY Municipal Wind Buyers Group, which was given a leadership award by the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. Bob holds a Master’s Degree from the Graduate School of Government and Business of The George Washington University.
