Video: Sampling Sparkill Creek

Community scientists have expanded Riverkeeper’s water quality sampling program far beyond our own sampling patrol along the Hudson, by working along New York City’s waterfront and in 211 miles of Hudson Valley streams.

In this video, Laurie Seeman of Strawtown Art & Garden Studio explains how the program sparked the formation of the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance.

We are fortunate to have such dedicated community science partners all along the estuary, gathering data and inspiring new efforts to protect their local streams.

“Our government people are very involved with us now. They don’t see us as complainers, they see us as contributors to how to manage the watershed and the municipal decisions,” Seeman says. “It’s huge.”

Check our interactive maps throughout the season and explore the sampling data in your community.
