Pass this law to empower towns on petroleum pipelines

Riverkeeper, Scenic Hudson, Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter and the Natural Resources Defense Council support legislation that empowers towns to have the same authority over petroleum pipelines or other state regulated pipelines as their village and city municipal counterparts. New York’s Transportation Corporation law requires that villages and cities’ legislative bodies give an affirmative 2/3s vote before pipelines can be built within their jurisdictions. However, towns are not given similar authority under this 100 year old law. The current bill we support aims to rectify this gap by amending the law to provide towns with the same authority to say no as other municipalities now enjoy.
