Riverkeeper lights up The Big Apple

As the sun set on Wednesday, April 13, the Empire State Building was lit in Riverkeeper’s colors — blue, green and deep blue — to help celebrate our half century of defending New York’s waterways.

It was a tribute to the soaring accomplishments of concerned citizens, fishermen and scientists who started this movement in 1966, resolving to restore this river to health. Riverkeeper has become a model for more than 280 groups worldwide.

In an early afternoon ceremony, New York Rangers’ Hall of Famer — and Riverkeeper Board Member — Mike Richter helped us “flip the switch” in the historic building’s lobby.

Joining him were Riverkeeper’s Chief Prosecuting Attorney Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., his daughter Kick Kennedy, and Riverkeeper President Paul Gallay.
