Join the Department of Environmental Protection for the Newtown Creek LTCP Public Meeting on February 21st at 6pm.
In November 2016, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) kicked off the Long Term Control Plan (LTCP) for the Newtown Creek Watershed. The goal of the LTCP is to identify appropriate CSO* controls necessary to achieve waterbody-specific water quality standards, consistent with the Federal CSO Policy and the water quality goals of the Clean Water Act (CWA).
At the kickoff, community members requested a follow-up meeting to focus on the data analysis conducted for the LTCP. *Sometimes when there are heavy rains and the sewer system is at full capacity, a mixture of rain water and sewage, also known as combined sewer overflows (CSOs) are released into local waterways.
