Join Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, a Riverkeeper partner, for an Open House on Saturday, October 5, 2019 in Palisades, NY. The event will feature fun and informative Earth science activities for parents, children, and science enthusiasts of all ages. Exhibits are aimed at different ages and educational levels, from elementary school-age children to college students, citizen scientists, and those well versed in the Earth sciences.

At the Open House you can:

  • Visit the Seismic Sound Lab and experience the sights and sounds of earthquakes.
  • Create your own eruptions at our hands-on exhibit featuring volcanoes of different eruptive intensity, volcanic rocks, and volcano research.
  • Attend an Earth science lecture on the latest research and discoveries at the Observatory.
  • Contribute to Lamont research by bringing soil samples from home to test for lead, and becoming an ice detective with X-SNOW.
  • Tour the Core Repository to learn about one of the world’s most unique and important collections of sediment cores from every major ocean and sea.
  • And much more.

The Open House is free and open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation.
