The NYSDEC PEERS program enables community and watershed groups to collect and submit water quality chemistry data in ways that can support community and regulatory objectives. PEERS data offer valuable additions to DEC datasets which can be incorporated into State and Federal water quality reports. Data can also be used for ambient water quality assessments, for regulatory assessments and activities related to permit writing, compliance and enforcement, and to track long-term regional water quality trends.

This presentation will discuss strategic objectives that watershed groups might be able to accomplish through this program, and some of the limitations and challenges. Jen Epstein will share experiences from two projects that Riverkeeper has underway in partnership with the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance and the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak.
