In July, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) released proposed draft regulations to protect over 1 million acres of critically important freshwater wetlands that are not currently regulated by the agency. In the face of increased development pressure and climate change, NYSDEC’s regulations must be clear and comprehensive to effectively achieve the goals of the Freshwater Wetlands Act and adequately protect wetlands for current and future generations of humans and wildlife. The public is invited and encouraged to comment on and ask questions about the proposed draft regulations.
DEC will hold two public comment hearings virtually on September 10, 2024 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
And an in-person hearing on September 12, 2024 at 1p.m, at DEC Central Office at 625 Broadway, Albany, NY.
Register to attend one or both of the upcoming virtual hearings, or register to attend the in-person hearing.
