Building the Ashokan Reservoir

Join the Hudson River Maritime Museum for a lecture on the history of the Ashokan Reservoir. This event is part of the Follow the River Lecture Series, sponsored by Rondout Savings Bank.

This is a hybrid format event (in-person and virtual). The in-person opportunity, held at the museum’s Wooden Boat School in Kingston, is limited to 20 people. No walk-ins will be allowed – advanced registration and masks are required. All registrants will receive the virtual access link.

The Ashokan Reservoir is a visual treat for anyone using the perimeter road, dividing weir, or the new Ashokan Rail Trail. The background of Catskill Mountain peaks, which frame 12 square miles of water, create a vista that makes the visitor wonder how this all came to be.

Speaker
Frank Almquist
is a local historian and author of the new book “Building the Ashokan Reservoir” (2021). He has been a museum volunteer and lighthouse docent for many years.
