Join the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, NRDC, and The Journal News/LoHud for a Regional Forum on Nuclear Waste Storage and Decommissioning. The goal of this event is to convey key information and expert insight on nuclear-decommissioning issues to community members and decision-makers. The forum is designed to help us discuss alternatives and identify the safest reasonable, fully-funded decommissioning plan for Indian Point, that can also serve as a model for other reactor communities in New York and around the nation which are or will soon be facing decommissioning.
Sponsors: Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and The Journal News/LoHud are working together to assemble national experts and provide sound, independent information for the elected and appointed officials and community members.
Content: The forum will address nuclear waste management and other important decommissioning issues. The Indian Point Community Unity Task Force is actively exploring options for economic development and other ways to help mitigate the loss of tax revenues and critical charitable donations that will occur when Indian Point closes. We also face highly significant decisions about how to best secure Indian Point’s spent fuel and how and when to deconstruct the plant so as to minimize risk of dispersing radioactivity. The stakes of these decisions are high; the time to start exploring the information that will lead to the best results is now. The forum will address these issues in detail, complementing the important planning and visioning work of the Task Force regarding economic impacts. We welcome your input regarding the design of the Forum so that will be of the greatest value to participants.
This event open to the public, however, pre-registration is required. Register here.
