Dr. Erin Bell (co-lead) and Assistant Professor Michael Bloom will present their work on the Newburgh & Hoosick Falls PFAS Health Study and host a special Q&A session on PFAS health impacts and what the study means for you, your family and our community. For decades until 2016, (when Newburgh switched to a safe water supply), people in Newburgh drank water contaminated with PFAS chemicals, a class of highly persistent and toxic chemicals. We want to know how this will affect us. Our doctors don’t have many answers, but a study is in progress to help us know more. Meanwhile, in this time of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control has found that exposure to PFOA and PFOS can lead to “decreased antibody response to vaccines.”
