The Public Service Commission will hold two more public hearings to allow comments on Danskammer LLC’s proposal to install new generators powered by fracked gas, or diesel fuel. This proposal disregards New York’s plan for enacting the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act which would reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

With a typical lifespan, the proposed plant will be around well past 2040, and Danskammer lacks a concrete plan as to how it would comply with a zero emission power grid. Localized pollutants make the proposed plant bad news for local residents, and harmful carbon dioxide emissions makes it bad news for the climate. We spoke up during the public hearings on March 31, as more people signed up to speak than they have time for.  The good news is, PSC recognized they did not hear from everyone and there are now two new opportunities for you to push back on Tuesday, September 28 at 5 pm and Wednesday, September 29 at 1 pm.

If you have not weighed in on NYS Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment’s upcoming siting decision, or you still have more to say you’ll need to register by 3pm on September 27 to have the opportunity to be heard:

To register, click on the “register” button at the bottom of the 5 pm hearing webpage or the 1 pm hearing webpage. To join the hearing online visit webex and click “Join a meeting.”
