Join Riverkeeper and Plastic Patrol for a cleanup of the Hudson River along the Kaal Rock Park shoreline (meeting location coordinates: 41.701216, -73.941049). Volunteers will clean up by land and those over 18 will have the opportunity to try out picking up trash from a standup paddleboard (SUP).
Volunteers are welcome to bring their own paddleboard (SUP), kayak, or canoe. Volunteers who wish to participate from land are also welcome.
Volunteers should dress for the weather in light layers they feel comfortable getting dirty and wear sturdy shoes. Please bring a filled reusable water bottle, hat, sunscreen, and a snack if you think you will need one. Plastic gloves will be provided.
If you are planning to paddle board, it’s recommended you bring a towel, wear light breathable clothes (non-cotton is ideal), and footwear suitable for standup paddleboarding (SUP) sneakers if you don’t mind getting them wet, strapped sandals or neoprene boots if you have them.
This cleanup is organized in partnership with British double world record holder, environmentalist, and founder of Plastic Patrol, Lizzie Outside. In September Lizzie will be paddling from Albany to NY-NJ Harbor by standup paddleboard (SUP) to highlight the issue of plastic pollution. Lizzie is no stranger to a challenge. After overcoming a battle with cancer in 2015, she became the first person in history to paddleboard the length of England solo and
unsupported a year later, and in 2017 became the first woman to solo paddle board across
the English Channel – another world first. Learn more about Lizzie, Plastic Patrol, and her Hudson River Paddle.
