Join us for a fun and fascinating discussion with our favorite filmmaker, Jon Bowermaster!

Riverkeeper is proud to honor Jon Bowermaster with our 2022 Hudson Hero Award at our upcoming Summer Splash annual gala. A dedicated environmental activist and clean water advocate, Jon has focused his career and considerable talent in filmmaking on highlighting and raising awareness on global and local conservation.

Jon has worked with Riverkeeper and several Hudson Valley organizations over the years to produce documentary films that raise awareness about the threats to the Hudson as well as showcase the stories of hope in our communities. We encourage you to visit www.hudsonriverstories.com to view his short films and then join us as our very own Co-Directors of Science and Patrol, Captain John Lipscomb and Dan Shapley, speak to Jon about his story at this online event.

About Jon:

Jon Bowermaster

Writer, filmmaker and adventurer, Jon Bowermaster is a six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council. His first assignment for National Geographic Magazine in 1988 was documenting a 3,741 mile crossing of Antarctica by dogsled.

Jon has written eleven books and produced/directed more than thirty documentary films. His feature documentaries include Dear President Obama, Antarctica, on the Edge, After the Spill and Ghost Fleet. (oceans8films.com). He is a longtime contributor to magazines ranging from The New York Times Magazine and The Atlantic to Outside and Rolling Stone.

His National Geographic-sponsored Oceans 8 project took him and his teams around the world by sea kayak over the course of ten years (1999-2008), bringing back stories from the Aleutian Islands to French Polynesia, Gabon to Tasmania, and more, reporting on how the planet’s one ocean, its residents and various coastlines are faring in today’s busy world. The project resulted in an eight-part television series for the National Geographic Channel.

For the past eight years, Jon and his One Ocean Media Foundation / Oceans 8 teams have focused on a series of more than 20 documentary films about the environmental risks facing and hopes for the Hudson Valley and Hudson River. Since 2018 he has hosted the weekly Green Radio Hour on Radio Kingston and taught in the Environment and Urban Studies program at Bard College.

Jon lives in New York’s Hudson Valley and is the President of the One Ocean Media Foundation, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation and a Creative Affiliate with the Safina Center. We are honored to have partnered with him over the years to create several films about our work at Riverkeeper and the Hudson River and to present him with this year’s Hudson Hero Award.

Don’t forget to join us at the Summer Splash as we honor Jon as well as our Big Fish Honoree Super Law Group, and celebrate our shared clean water victories in protecting and preserving our waterways and drinking water. More information and tickets >
