Riverkeeper President Paul Gallay will speak aboard the historic schooner F/V Sherman Zwicker as part of the Billion Oyster Project Speaker Series. The event is presented by Grand Banks, a seasonal oyster bar on the schooner, docked at Hudson River Park’s Pier 25, and the Maritime Foundation.

The Billion Oyster project is a long-term, large-scale plan to restore one billion live oysters to New York Harbor over the net 20 years, and in the process educate thousands of young people in New York City about the ecology and economy of their local marine environment. BOP is a partnership of schools, businesses, nonprofits, and individuals all working together to grow oysters and make our city a healthier and more resilient place to live.

The founding and central partner is the New York Harbor School located on Governors Island. The schools 430 students work to restore the Harbor through their classwork in one of six Career and Tech classes, including Aquaculture, Professional diving, Marine Service Technology, Vessel Operations, Marine Biology and Research and Ocean Engineering.

The talks aboard the Sherman Zwicker and are free of charge and open to the general public.
