Riverkeeper will make a presentation at the next meeting of the Rockland County Water Quality Committee, about the results of ongoing monitoring of fecal contamination in the Sparkill Creek, in collaboration with the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance, and plans for a pollution source trackdown project in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Conservation.

The Mission of the Rockland County Water Quality Committee is to protect, conserve and restore Rockland County’s water resources. Established in 1992, membership in the RCWQC is open to any organization, municipality, government agency, or individual interested in the mission and goals of the committee.

Riverkeeper has been monitoring Sparkill Creek for fecal contamination for several years, in partnership with both the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance, and Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. The creek has shown more evidence of this type of contamination than most other creeks monitored by Riverkeeper’s Water Quality Program. Review the sampling results here.

The committee meetings are open to the public.
