Public Hearing 3:00-7:00pm
Rally: 5:00-6:00pm
In early January, Donald Trump and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke released a draft offshore drilling plan that proposed an unprecedented expansion of offshore drilling into nearly all of America’s waters, including the shores of Long Island.
If Trump’s plan becomes reality, the likelihood of oil spills and other devastating environmental catastrophes will increase exponentially. In 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill damaged 1,313 miles of coastline, more than the entire length of California, or half the Atlantic Coast. The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is accepting comments on the proposed plan through March 9th. Information sessions are being held in state capitals of shoreline states, Including Albany.
Join us outside the meeting to rally against Trump’s Plan to despoil our coastal waters with oil rigs!
Who: A broad coalition of environmental activists, elected officials, renewable energy and clean water advocates Voicing opposition to the Trump Administration’s draft proposed program for offshore oil and gas leasing and exploration
What: The crowd will gather outside the administration’s public open house on the draft plan — the only hearing scheduled in NY– to highlight the threats offshore drilling poses to our coastline, climate, marine ecosystems, and the health and economic well-being of our communities.
Please join us in opposing Trump’s plan and supporting renewable energy development, including onshore and offshore wind, solar and other forms of clean renewable energy!
