Join Riverkeeper and partner organizations for a free webinar about the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ proposal to build a $52 billion suite of projects throughout New York – New Jersey Harbor intended to protect the region against flooding from coastal storms. The plan includes 12 storm surge barriers across the mouths of waterways such as Newtown Creek, Flushing Creek and the Gowanus Canal, where they flow into the harbor.
Get informed about the elements of this sweeping plan; the harmful impacts that barriers could have on our waterways, and how you can support a more comprehensive, ecologically sound approach to flood protections. A public comment period is open through March 7, and communities throughout New York City, northern New Jersey and the Hudson Valley all have a stake in this plan.
