In honor of World Toilet Day, NYC H2O, FLUSH, and Newtown Creek Alliance are hosting a walking tour focusing on where NYC’s water and waste go. The tour will begin in Queens, where it will explore Newtown Creek’s combined sewage overflow (CSO) outputs and nearby wetland restoration projects. We will then walk to Kingsland Wildflowers, where we will explore green infrastructure that can help mitigate stormwater runoff while admiring the treatment plants’ digester eggs. We will end the walk at Newtown Creek’s Nature Walk, enjoying the ecology around the largest Wastewater Treatment Center in the city. The tour will be approximately 3 miles on flat ground and will have restroom breaks in the middle. We recommend wearing walking shoes and preparing for cooler weather.
