For Immediate Release

Cliff Weathers, Riverkeeper,, 845-445-8257

WHAT: Riverkeeper, New York’s Clean Water Advocate, will host its annual Fishermen’s Ball on May 17 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers. The Ball will celebrate an historic year of clean water wins throughout New York State and raise critical funds for Riverkeeper. To commemorate the year, hundreds of clean water advocates from around the state will attend this year’s event, making this one of the largest known gatherings of environmental activists in New York.

Hosted by Emmy Award-winning host, producer, and author Andy Cohen, the Fishermen’s Ball honors Alec Baldwin with the “Big Fish” award and Newburgh Councilwoman Karen Mejia with the “Hudson Hero” award. Mr. Baldwin, a long-time friend of Riverkeeper and high-profile advocate for the environment will be honored for his work to elevate the conversation around the need to close Indian Point and ban fracking, and will receive his award via video due to his filming schedule. Councilwoman Mejia will be honored for her work to assure a safe supply of drinking water to 29,000 Newburgh residents who had been exposed to a toxic chemical leak from a nearby National Guard air base into the City’s local reservoir.

The Fishermen’s Ball will feature a special performance by Grammy Award nominee Grace Potter (“Stars,” “Paris,” “You and Tequila”), as well as the premiere of City on the Water, a new short film by National Geographic filmmaker Jon Bowermaster, and a new “Unfiltered” PSA featuring Kevin Bacon, Rosie Perez, Mark Ruffalo, Fisher Stevens, Cecily Strong and more.
