New York — Riverkeeper, New York’s Clean Water Advocate, will honor rock musician, actor and fashion icon Debbie Harry at its annual Fishermen’s Ball on May 8, 2019 at Pier Sixty One (The Lighthouse) at New York City’s famed Chelsea Piers.

Harry, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with her band, Blondie, in 2006, will be honored as Riverkeeper’s “Big Fish” for her years of environmental advocacy, her work to eliminate the threats to pollinators and her efforts to recycle plastics into fashion-forward clothing.

Also honored will be Pace University’s Environmental Law Program, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The law program has fostered the next generation of environmental leaders committed to using the law to guarantee a safe, clean, and healthy natural world.

The Fishermen’s Ball will be hosted by Emmy and Pulitzer Prize-winning news personality Steve Liesman, with special remarks by aquanaut and documentary filmmaker Fabien Cousteau.

National Geographic filmmaker Jon Bowermaster will debut a new short documentary, A Living River, at the event. The evening will be highlighted by a special performance by critically acclaimed recording artist Willie Nile (“Streets Of New York,” “One Guitar”).

Cocktail hour is sponsored by ABSOLUT, Planet Earth’s favorite vodka.

Riverkeeper is grateful to our other sponsors, including EILEEN FISHER, Pointy Snout Caviar — sustainably farmed in Uruguay, Indus Capital Partners, Ironshore, JSA Financial and M&T Bank.
