Ship Rocked IPA Beer Project is a collaboration between Mill House Brewing Company and Riverkeeper to highlight that 100,000 people get their drinking water from the Hudson River.

India Pale Ale (IPA) dates back to the 1700s when it was created to meet the demand for beer around the world in a time of exploration and conquest. The British brewed this new IPA with extra hops and alcohol and put it in barrels to age on ships bound for distant lands.

Remaining true to this tradition, Mill House has created Ship Rocked IPA, brewed in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where the drinking water comes from directly from the Hudson River.

“This beer represents a community collaboration to celebrate and highlight the Hudson River. Ship Rocked IPA is barrel conditioned on the Hudson River to mimic the true essence of IPAs and the journey they took across the Ocean. Rocked by the ‘motion of the Ocean’ this beer is not only made with Hudson River source water, but it also used the river as part of the beer making process.”
– Jamie Bishop, Mill House Brewing Co.

Riverkeeper has worked with the seven communities that draw drinking water from the Hudson River – The City and Town of Poughkeepsie, the Village and Town of Rhinebeck, and the Towns of Esopus, Hyde Park and Lloyd – to form the Hudson River Drinking Water Intermunicipal Council. This first-of-its-kind effort is dedicated to protecting the source of drinking water for 100,000 people in these communities – the Hudson River. They call themselves “the Hudson 7.”
