Adirondack Park clean water needs, including for Hudson, top $100 million

A new report by the Adirondack Council identifies more than $100 million in water infrastructure needs in the Adirondack Park, including including for wastewater projects on tributaries of the Hudson River, like the Schroon River and Sacandaga River.
The Hudson River Watershed has documented needs for wastewater infrastructure improvements alone exceeding $2.5 billion, according to the latest data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. (The Hudson headwaters are in the Adirondacks, but several other watersheds are part of the Adirondacks as well.)
The New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act has helped fund dozens of needed projects, and Gov. Cuomo and the Legislature have championed the grants program with a $400 million investment over its first three years. A coalition of organizations that includes Riverkeeper and the Adirondack Council, along with groups representing municipal, utility, planning, construction and recreational interests, is advocating for an increase in annual funding to $800 million.
