The Hamlet of Leeds, on Catskill Creek, will be moving from an old septic system to municipal wastewater treatment. This community has suffered from pathogen pollution in its stretch of Catskill Creek including illegal dumping by a homeowner who did not want to repair and maintain his septic system. Riverkeeper, in partnership with local residents, has been testing Catskill Creek for fecal contamination since 2011. The data from Leeds has confirmed the concerns of local residents and helped to support concrete actions towards a remedy.

This week the Catskill Town Board approved $500,000 to begin the work.

The pipe that delivered sewage from a multi-family into Catskill Creek via a storm drain. Yuck!
