The Riverkeeper patrol boat is on the Hudson conducting water quality testing from NY Harbor to Troy. It takes about 6 days to collect the 74 samples along the 156 mile stretch of the Hudson. Within a few days of the end of the patrol the data is posted online.
We’re seeing people getting into the river seeking relief from the hot weather snap.
Core sampling barges can be seen working north of the Tappan Zee Bridge. Pile load testing will follow to determine the exact number and size of pilings needed to support the new bridges.
The effluent/discharge from the Orangetown and South Rockland sewer plants is through one pipe, way out in the River, just south of the end of Piermont Pier. The effluent is fresh water so it rises up in the heavier brackish water typically found in this part of the estuary.
