Side by side on the Hudson River: oil barge, bald eagle

In May 2014, a kayaker sent this image of a tug/barge carrying North Dakota crude oil and a Bald Eagle fishing.

InstabargeeagleThe contrast is stunning and poignant. Both are users of the River. One is sustainable, the other is not. One presents a huge risk, the other does not.

Will there be a crude oil spill in the Hudson from a train or barge? We hold our breaths. “Government of the people, for the people, by the people..?” Sorry, not here, not now, not on this issue. Federal and State leaders are serving the rail and oil industries, not the public, not our environment.
