Gov. Paterson Speaks on Fracking

In a radio interview, Governor Paterson said he won’t let the industrial gas drilling industry frack with New York until there is “overwhelming evidence that nothing will happen to the water supply.”   Paterson said New York will issue permits if scientific evidence shows the process is safe.

Paterson’s statement, however, ignores the surface impacts from industrial gas drilling (for example, the thousands of trucks needed to transport water and toxic wastewater) that make this practice unacceptable within the source of New York City’s drinking water.

Now is the time to let Andrew Cuomo, a candidate to replace Governor Paterson, know what you think about fracking in New York City’s Watershed.
