Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio would ban drilling in NYC Watershed. But Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the democratic candidate, has made no such commitment. A recent article in the Ithica Journal outlines the positions of the two candidates.
In his New NY Agenda, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo simply said that gas drilling should only be done in an environmentally responsible manner. But vague statements are not enough when it comes to protecting the unfiltered drinking water supply for 9 million New Yorkers.
Former U.S. Rep. and republican nominee Rick Lazio has taken a more decisive position, stating that he is open to fracking, but would require: (1) a study of the environmental impacts, and (2) place drilling restrictions around the NYC watershed and other areas.
Anyone concerned about drinking water should be asking the same question: Why hasn’t Andrew Cuomo called for a ban to protect NYC’s water supply? You can tell him to do that right here.
