We hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe as we work our way through the unprecedented challenges brought by the coronavirus pandemic.

I wanted to get in touch as this situation continues to unfold, and share some updates from Riverkeeper.

First and foremost, we are working on ways to maintain the sense of community that is so vital to our work and our relationship with you – even as new forms of distancing become necessary. Despite this physical distance, we can remain close to the river and each other through our work.

Riverkeeper will remain active in all aspects of our work. Our patrol boat will be back on the Hudson again. We will continue our passionate advocacy in areas like habitat restoration, dam removal, water quality, coastal flood protections, and the safe closing and decommissioning of Indian Point.

However, our group gatherings – including the Fishermen’s Ball and Riverkeeper Sweep, both scheduled for May – will be postponed. We will find other ways to support you, as stewards of the river and volunteers in your communities, as we shift toward individual efforts.

We will find new ways to gather online, through video and videoconferencing. And we will share resources to inform or inspire you – articles, books, films and materials that deepen our knowledge of the river and what it needs from us.

Stay tuned for details, and as always keep an eye on Riverkeeper.org and our social media channels, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Our staff is working mostly from home, but we can still be reached via phone and email as before.

Clean water helps sustain us through emergencies like these. The river provides solace and steadiness when our lives are off balance. Our mission certainly remains urgent, as we face a public health crisis that especially threatens the most vulnerable among us. We hope you’ll stay connected with us as we move together through this difficult season.

Let’s continue working collectively to restore the river, as the river restores us.

We wish you health and safety during this time.
