Through decades of community advocacy and the work of groups like Riverkeeper, the river now stands reclaimed from industrial pollution, but it’s still suffering from sewage pollution and catching up on gaps in public access and trust. Real access means open beaches, new launch points, and public infrastructure that invites people back into the river. Riverkeeper will continue building toward that future.
