The Air National Guard, which is overseeing the cleanup of toxic PFAS “forever chemical” pollution at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, has released a new plan to reduce pollution flowing off the base. PFAS pollution from firefighting foam used at the base contaminated drinking water in the City of Newburgh and Town of New Windsor, forcing the communities to switch to alternate drinking water supplies or filter their water.
For years, Riverkeeper has led the charge to Speed up the Cleanup of this “forever chemical” pollution. The proposed plan is a step in the right direction, and we will continue to push for an accelerated cleanup that ensures clean, safe drinking water for local residents.
