Urge EPA to reject GE’s attempts to delay cleanup
Riverkeeper, along with Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Natural Resources Defense Council and Scenic Hudson, have submitted a letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson requesting a meeting to discuss GE’s latest bid for additional postponements to the PCB cleanup project. The letter also presses the agency to reject GE’s continuing attempts to shirk responsibility for its legacy of pollution in the Hudson River.
Last month, we banded together with our partner groups to send an action alert to Lisa Jackson urging the EPA to hold GE’s feet to the fire to commit now to finish the cleanup. So far, among all of the groups’ combined membership, we’ve sent over 10,000 responses.
By questioning the success of the completed Phase I and holding Phase 2 hostage to continued negotiation, GE is positioning itself to evade a comprehensive remediation. Through our actions, we’re working to ensure that GE is legally bound to resume PCB dredging in 2011 as planned, and continues until the full cleanup is done.
