New Riverkeeper tool visualizes climate change from New York City to the Adirondacks
Interactive map shows how rising temperatures, increasing precipitation, and sea level rise are impacting the Hudson River watershed and surrounding communities

Ossining, NY — January 28, 2026: Rising temperatures, extreme heat, and heavier precipitation are already reshaping our region — affecting water quality and quantity, sea levels, flood risks, ecosystems, and the health of millions of people who depend on the Hudson River watershed for drinking water, recreation, and as a food source. To help communities understand and prepare for these changes, Riverkeeper has launched a new climate change section within its recently unveiled Water Quality Portal, an interactive online tool designed to make critical environmental data accessible to everyone.
This new section features interactive projections for sea level rise, air temperature, and precipitation across the entire Hudson River watershed, from New York City to the Adirondacks. By visualizing how climate change is expected to impact local waterways, the tool empowers residents, advocates, and decision makers with the information they need to plan for a rapidly changing climate reality.

The Water Quality Portal puts much-needed information in the hands of the public, the press, and the research community.”
The Water Quality Portal brings together climate projections with a wide range of additional, practical information — including the locations of environmentally sensitive areas and potential pollution sources. Users can also explore where their drinking water comes from, find public access points for river recreation, and easily check fish consumption advisories to avoid exposure to PCBs and other harmful contaminants found in some local fish.
The climate change section builds on Riverkeeper’s extensive, science-based monitoring program. Working with partners, Riverkeeper currently tests water quality at nearly 250 sites throughout the Hudson River watershed, creating one of the most comprehensive water monitoring efforts in the region. In the new climate change section, users can see how water quality has changed over time at all of these locations.
Together, these tools reflect Riverkeeper’s commitment to transparency, public health, and climate resilience — ensuring that communities have the data they need to protect their water, their environment, and their future.
