Tracking emerging contaminants in our waterways

Riverkeeper Team
Riverkeeper kicked off a new round of water quality sampling across the Hudson River watershed — with an expanded focus on emerging contaminants that impact both ecosystems and public health. In partnership with the EPA, we’ll be collecting samples to measure tire-derived chemicals like 6PPD-Q in the Bronx River, and working with our partners at Syracuse University to measure trace organics such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and disinfection byproduct precursors. This marks our second year collaborating on this research and is part of our growing effort to better understand and address pollution in our waterways.
These efforts will feed into an exciting new tool: Riverkeeper’s online Water Quality Portal, launching soon, where the public, scientists, and decision-makers will be able to freely access and explore our water quality data.
