Riverkeeper applauds Governor Hochul’s commitment to clean water infrastructure with a new commitment of $3.75 billion over the next 5 years, especially at a time when federal environmental protections are being rolled back. At the same time, proposals to weaken New York’s environmental review process for housing and infrastructure projects could open the door to more pollution impacting New Yorkers. While we support efforts to modernize technology and the platforms used to process permits and environmental reviews, we strongly oppose changes that will lead to degradation of our environment.
